God standeth in the congregation of the mighty (Psalms 82:1a)

he judgeth among the gods.
How long will ye judge unjustly,
and accept the persons of the wicked^?
Defend the poor and fatherless:
do justice to the afflicted and needy.
Deliver the poor and needy:
rid them out of the hand of the wicked.

“Thou shalt have no other gods before me!” Yes, Lord, I keep your first commandment; I have no other god. But, no, I don’t keep all your commandments; I’m but a weak sinner. Other things come up and I just slip and fall. You will forgive me for those? You say if other things are that important to me then I fear, love, and trust those other things more than you? This is the first commandment. Lord have mercy! Bless us with your Spirit so we can defend and deliver the afflicted, poor, and needy.
