Northern Lights (May 10, 2024)

Once in a lifetime; the geomagnetic storm that hit earth on May 10 may go down in history in the top 20 over the last 500 years! The skies came alive not only in mid-latitudes, but also in places such as Puerto Rico and New Caledonia. The aurora was even visible from our East Wenatchee, WA yard, where we battle light pollution from four new car dealerships.

However, we also took the Friday night drive a few miles out of town over Badger Mtn., where the skies are much darker. Felt like a community-wide party with every wide spot filled with cars. Expecting only a red glow on the northern horizon, we were surprised and excited to see the sky filled with red, greens, and cream colors from horizon to horizon. A striking radiance point displayed directly overhead.
