there was darkness over all the land

“Now from the sixth hour there was darkness over all the land unto the ninth hour. And about the ninth hour Jesus cried with a loud voice, saying, Eli, Eli, lama sabachthani? that is to say, My God, my God, why hast thou forsaken me?” (Matthew 27:45-46)

makes the day dark

Seek him that maketh the seven stars and Orion, and turneth the shadow of death into the morning, and maketh the day dark with night: that calleth for the waters of the sea, and poureth them out upon the face of the earth: The Lord is his name: that strengtheneth the spoiled against the strong, […]

darkness and light are both alike to thee

If I say, Surely the darkness shall cover me; Even the night shall be light about me. Yea, the darkness hideth not from thee; But the night shineth as the day: The darkness and the light are both alike to thee. Psalms 139:11-12 The winds as they come off the Cascade Mountains to our west […]

fast moving front

A fast moving front wiped out our view of the eclipse. The moon was visible right up until the time the eclipse began. I last checked at the time totality was ending, and still only clouds, and wind. However, by morning only… Willingly I will sacrifice to You; I will give thanks to Your name, O Lord, […]

through the trees

This angle on clouds is from our back door through the trees. Among the trees are Austrian pine (front left), eastern red cedar (front right), and Oriental arborvitae (hedge in back). A weeping blue atlas ceder is on the bottom slightly right of center.

O give thanks unto the LORD

O give thanks unto the Lord; for he is good: for his mercy endureth for ever. To him that made great lights: for his mercy endureth for ever:  The sun to rule by day: for his mercy endureth for ever: The moon and stars to rule by night: for his mercy endureth for ever. Psalms […]

next week is Holy Week

an opportunity to meditate on the death of our Lord Jesus Christ, and exactly what does that mean? How is the death of our God good news for the poor and the defeated? The answer comes on Easter when we celebrate the defeat of death. However, for now what does that mean? It’s an opportunity […]
